A Humble and Teachable Spirit

"He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way." (Psalms 25:9)

When I lived in Michigan, there was a guy I knew who always had wise quips to say. When it came to telling long stories he would say, "Ok, cut the fat." When something funny happened, he would say a verse from a song, "Mercy said no!" But the one phrase he would say when talking about working with people is that, in order to teach well, you have to have a Teachable spirit. I always loved this concept because it suggests that in order to make an impact on someone, they have to be willing to be taught, you can't teach a person who is unwilling to learn. With this also comes humility. Humility says, I will put my self aside for a moment and listen. I will pay attention and not let pride rise up. So when I think of this verse, it reminds me of what it takes to be led, guided, and taught. You have to be Teachable and humble.

I thank God that He is willing to guide me if I set myself and my ways aside.

I thank God that He is able to teach me when I choose to be humble.

I choose to have a humble spirit. I am thankful for all that God wants to teach me.
