Take Me to the Gospel

“Through grace you have been saved…

Today in my devotional time, I was a mess. Multiple projects and Bible plans jostled back and forth in my mind. I simply had too many Bible study options to settle on. Frustration took the place of the peace that I long to have during my quiet time. In addition to the decision fatigue, multiple text messages came in (a grave mistake: having my phone near me in the morning). Also my children were asking about valid things, and very soon hunger started to creep in.

I turned to Proverbs which is my go-to if I just need a quick jolt of spiritual inspiration. But, I realized that all I wanted was Jesus. I wanted to be reminded of the heart of the gospel: Jesus saving me with His life and by His grace. The new life we have in Jesus and how we are adopted as his chosen sons and daughters. I wanted to simply rest in the bosom of God and remember that it is all about Him.

I took my Bible promise book and meditated on a few scriptures. I made a mental note that I want to keep Jesus front and center in my day. I wanted to remember His grace that gives me all that I need and that I can rely on Him.

As frustrating as this experience was. I hope to remember that in moments when I can’t think straight, my center is to simply accept God’s gift of grace and allow that to carry me through the day.

Dear Lord, whenever I’m confused, please take me back to the gospel: The good news of being a child of God through your Son Jesus Christ. May I find peace and assurance in this simple truth. In Jesus’ name amen.
