The Wins, The Good Things, and The Blessings,

Some homeschooling days feel harder than others. It could be due to a late night, the lack of sunshine in the fall, or the morning walk I didn't get to go on due to a spontaneous sibling spat.  Whatever it is, there are some things that just make these hard days feel so much better for me.  One of those things I like to do is name the wins, share the good things, or count the blessings. Over the years, I've tried to train myself to remember all the good things before me, even on sluggish days. Here are some of our wins, good things, and blessings for today.

The Wins:

  1.  Afternoon walk in the cold with the kids
  2. A potential bear and/or mountain lion track we discovered
  3. 30 minute praise/prayer session before school
  4. Dramatized audio reading of the book of Job at meal time
  5. Shiloh's washed, conditioned, and twisted hair all done before bedtime
  6. Norah's enthusiasm while "babysitting" and "teaching" Benjamin and getting along quite well
  7. Smooth music practice with David
  8. Delicious supper of Cuban black beans, brown rice, avocado and banana
  9. Benjamin's happy dancing, laughing, and joking from morning until night
  10. A new space heater, that's all mine
I love to recount the blessings. I could really just go on and on. The more I start to name them, the more of them I see. Oh how easy it would be to meditate on the hard moments. It's not all bad to recognize them, I don't want to ignore them.  However, I do want to keep training myself to fix my eyes on what is good. I am so blessed despite the darkness that often tries to pierce my soul. I'm so thankful that in the midst of it all, God's love overflows and sustains me.
